What is a metal ore?
An ore is any kind of rock or mineral from which a metal can be profitably extracted. Metals are rarely found uncombined (as elements) in nature. They are nearly always present in the forms of compounds, often where the metal is chemically joined with oxygen.

Alternative Methods of Extracting Metals (GCSE Chemistry)
In order to release the copper compounds from the cells of the plant, the plants are harvested and burnt. The ash from the plant contains the copper compounds, from which copper can be extracted. Extracting copper from the ash. The ash is reacted with sulfuric acid to make copper sulphate solution. Displacing the copper from copper sulphate ...

Extraction of Metals. Extraction of Copper.. Copper is sometimes found as native metal.. Copper ores include copper(II) oxide and copper(II) sulfide. Copper(II) oxide can be reduced by reaction with carbon.. Some copper ores may contain only small amounts of copper. These are called low grade ores and have less than 1% copper but they are …

Extracting Copper from Malachite
Extracting Copper from Malachite. We extracted Copper from Malachite using a displacement reaction. Although electrolysis can also be used. We used 5g of malachite and dissolved it in sulphuric acid; this was to separate the sand and the copper, because the copper dissolves into the solution but the sand remains separate.

3.3.4 Copper extraction :: GCSE notes
Traditional methods. Copper is usually sourced from copper-rich ores in two main methods; Copper can be smelted in a furnace by heating it with air to produce crude copper metal; for example, chalcocite is an ore of copper (I) sulfide, which reacts with oxygen to extract the copper: Cu 2 S (s) + O 2 (g) → 2Cu (s) + SO 2 (g) Copper ore …

Copper ore contains copper carbonate, CuCO 3. In the first stage of the extraction process, the copper carbonate is decomposed by heating to form copper oxide, CuO, and carbon dioxide. CuCO 3 → CuO + CO 2. When 100g of copper carbonate is decomposed completely in this way, it is found that the total mass of products is 100g.
